BOCCONI UNIVERSITY | LIBRARY

Milan

The renovation project covers the entire mezzanine floor and part of the basement overlooking the Church of San Ferdinando of the building at 5 Gobbi Street. The main objective was to concentrate the library and newspaper library areas on one floor, making maximum use of the floor area. A functional division is also created between the library and offices with the creation of a new independent entrance. With the inclusion of the aluminum bookcases we designed for UniFor, the increase in shelving reaches a linear development of 4200 meters. The existing entrance atrium is increased in area by incorporating the existing arcade as a covered area. The new atrium functions as a sorting place for the following flows: staircase and elevators leading to the library entrance; staircase leading to the Great Hall, checkroom, and connection to the cafeteria; and finally the new staircase and elevator leading to the office atrium above. A new reception desk, checkroom with lockers, and new restrooms are created on the basement level adjacent to the Church of St. Ferdinand.
