MORNINGSTAR OFFICE
Milan | 2010

In the Montedoria building designed by Giò Ponti in 1971, an entire floor was renovated to house the new offices of the Morningstar company. The building had the classic office typology with long corridors, unsuitable for a company that bases its business on teamwork and communication. Therefore, the floor was divided in two zones with the entrance and reception in the center. On one side we find all the open space offices while on the other side there are the public areas, separated by large windows. In the central core were concentrated the service rooms. The almost total absence of blind walls, the presence of transparent or translucent crystals, together with the long wall and the glossy lacquered ceiling of the same color as Ponti's facade, create an "immaterial" space full of reflections. The two focal points are represented by the "Café" and the reception area, conceived as sculptures made of glossy lacquered wood panels with complex geometry assembled on site to become monolithic pieces with no visible joints. The monolithic raised floor was made of natural lava stone from Etna plumbed in place.
